Ed Peterson’s Proposed Employment Pipeline Moving Forward

Johnson County Commissioner Ed Peterson reported that his proposal to develop an “employment pipeline” is moving forward through actions of the Board of County Commissioners and staff. The employment pipeline concept would connect high school, community college and university students with employers to enable direct on-the-job learning with focused curriculum in the schools. On May 22, the Board of County Commissioners agreed that the idea should be pursued and informally directed the County Manager to develop a plan for discussing the concept with interested groups in the community.  Read the full press release…

Ed Peterson Calls on County to Help Johnson County Students

Johnson County Commissioner Ed Peterson today called on his colleagues to dedicate county reserve funds to connect the county’s excellent school systems with jobs for youths. The funds to be used remain from the county’s share of a retail sales tax passed by Johnson County voters in 2002 to aid K-12 education in Johnson County. The tax expired in 2008, but the funds have been held since then as part of the county’s reserves. Read the full press release…

District 1 Commissioner Ed Peterson files for election as Chairman of the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners

This morning I formally filed for election to the position of Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners. I am running for County Chairman to move in a new direction, along a path where we together will choose priorities and make decisions to invest in our future. We will form partnerships with other areas of government and business to create and pay for our choices. We will lead against regressive policies coming out of Topeka that threaten our schools and our way of life. I am pleased to announce my candidacy for Chairman of the Johnson County Board of county commissioners. “Johnson County faces many challenges if it is to continue to be a premier county. In recent years we have been treading water, and it is time to put the recession in the rearview mirror and move forward with the steps that will preserve our status as a county of choice for working and raising a family,” Peterson said.
